Neighbours from hell disrupt the lives of a posh couple and her imaginary lover. "...equal parts romantic comedy, mafia thriller, bedroom farce, supernatural fairy tale and slapstick gag-a-thon... intoxicatingly off-kilter script" - The KW Record. A special highlight for this show is that the author of the play, Dianne Lococo, will be in the audience on Saturday, April 12th.

Bringing a group to a Preview performance (Thursday, April 10th) can be a great fundraiser for your organization. If you buy a block of 25 tickets (or more) you pay only $5 each and can resell them at a higher price. You keep the profit and we get a larger audience for our actors.

Dinner and Drama Pub and Play
On Wednesday, April 16th, two great packages are available to make your evening out special; Dinner and Drama (at Six Thirty Nine); and, Pub and Play (at The Charles Dickens). Tickets and information are available from the Market Centre Box Office, phone 519-537-2582.

A Note from the President

Hello everyone! Tired of the snow yet? We have been keeping warm at the Market Centre with some lively entertainment! Oxford's Got Talent was a huge success for us this year. Who knew?? All that talent just waiting to be shown to an audience. So many people involved in this second annual event. Board members, volunteers for tech, box office, back stage, green room, front of house, concession, judging. What a great team and a great week of talent. A whistler, dancers, singer-song writers, magicians and a comedy routine, all from our local area, competing against each other for the $1,000.00 prize and a chance to perform in front of an audience. We thank all who were involved for helping us to make this a great week.

We are busy this season with a great line up of shows coming your way. Make sure you visit us at the Market Centre to see what we have to offer this season. 'Art' was such a great play. Jason Paquette, Ian Culley and Dan Grass did an awesome job of showing us a great time. Director Jennifer Paquette has done it again, bringing a great cast and crew through another wonderful show to be added to the rest of our great season. Next up is The Perfect Manhattan, directed by Sue Miller-Veaudry. It is so great to have Sue back working with us, after such a long time away from our theatre.

CAST Theatre Company is currently working on Beauty and the Beast, Seussical Jr. and Romeo & Juliet or the Old "You Know I Really Love You, But My Father Really Hates You" Blues. Lot's going on in our little theatre. Hope to see you soon!

Oxford's Got Talent

Oxford's Got Talent posterThe second annual Oxford's Got Talent search was another huge success. Thirty-six acts auditioned for the selection committee. Singers, dancers, musicians, magicians and even a stand-up comic were in the mix. What a variety of talent!! Each performer was critiqued and given suggestions to help them should they make it to the next level.

Twelve acts were chosen to perform on each of the Thursday and Friday nights. From those contestants, 13 finalists were selected to appear before the final judges Jennifer Paquette, Dan Henry, Vicki St Pierre, and Ron Cameron-Lewis.

This event was originally the brainchild of Jason Paquette, and in collaboration with Heart FM has provided a wonderful opportunity for local performers to "strut their stuff" in front of an audience -- for several it was a first time. Cash prizes are provided by Heart FM.

A new genre this year was magic. John Poole, a teacher at CASS, has shared his interest in magic with his students and he and two of his protégés performed in the semi-finals.

The whole week is a special experience for Jennifer Paquette as she is the only judge who sees the acts at each level -- original audition, semi-finals and finals. She has the unique perspective of seeing the performers change and grow over the week. The variety of talent makes it a difficult choice to declare a winner, and getting four judges to agree makes for serious deliberation.

The final results were:

  • 5th - Evan Marsh (stand-up) $100,
  • 4th - Samantha Shanks (singer) $150,
  • 3rd - John Poole (magician) $250,
  • 2nd - Sarajane Sweetland (stepdancer), $500,
  • 1st - Cameron Hawes (blues guitar) $1,000.

Congratulations to all!

Twenty-Four Twenty Somethings return home to sing for Africa

This is something that CAST graduate Ben Alexander wrote when he was asked for something from the Foundation. I think it's terrific and wanted to share with you all.

Go to www.stephenlewisfoundation.org. On the main page under Share Ideas you'll see the title Twenty-Four Twenty Somethings return home to sing for Africa. PS... if they take it off the main page of the website, you will then be able to find it under Share Ideas, and then Youth Take Action.
