Theatre Woodstock

Theatre Woodstock Presents Another Great Season

Theatre Woodstock is continuing its long tradition of entertaining the residents of Woodstock and the surrounding area with its 2002 -2003 playbill.

Starting the season is Neil Simon's Plaza Suite. Set in New York's fabled Plaza Hotel looking out over Central Park, the play deals with three separate groups of people who successively occupy a suite at the Plaza. The production is being directed by three directors, Don Hastie, Tony Harding and Joanna Sweete who will each deal with one of the three acts. Performances will be October 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26 at 8 p.m.and October 20 at 2 p.m. The producer is Susan Sparks and the production sponsor is Woodstock Chrysler.

The Christmas show this year is Greetings by Tom Dudzick and is being guest directed by Terry Todd. Terry has worked with Thistle Theatre and St. Mary's in the past and we are pleased to welcome him. This show deals with what happens when Andy reluctantly brings home his Jewish atheist fiancee to spend Christmas Eve with his staunchly Catholic parents and his developmentally challenged brother. You'll be amazed at what happens. Performances are December 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14 at 8 p.m. and December 8 at 2 p.m. This show is produced by Susan Sparks and sponsored by Reeves.

February brings the delightfully wacky Steve Martin play Picasso at the Lapin Agile directed by Jason Paquette and produced by Nancy Ripley. Steve Martin, well known for his comic genius, has created an absurdist comedy based on a meeting of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe - the Lapin Agile - in 1904. While these two geniuses muse on the century's achievements and prospects, some quirky bystanders offer many additional flourishes of humour. Dates for this production which will be adjudicated for the WODL Festival are February 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 at 8 p.m. and February 9 at 2 p.m. The production sponsor is Robert Q Travel.

The final play of the season is a new Norm Foster comedy, just available to community theatre groups, Here on the Flight Path. The male character, John Cummings, lives in an apartment near the runways of a major airport, and is a lonely and divorced back porch philosopher. He reflects on his relationships with the three very different women who successively occupy the apartment next door. He shares his views on everything from poetry to sex. Performances, sponsored by Ross and Cecile Munro, occur on April 25, 26, May 1, 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. and April 27 at 2 p.m.

All these performances take place at The Market Centre, Theatre Woodstock's home at 22 Reeve Street in downtown Woodstock. Season's tickets to all four shows are still available at a cost of $48.00 and can be arranged by calling the box office at 537-2582 or visiting Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Individual tickets or gift certificates to any of the plays can also be arranged at a cost of $15.00 either at the box office or by visiting CraftWorks in the Springbank Plaza.
