Theatre Woodstock recognizes Volunteers
Don Hastie and Taffy Weir holding their awards. Theatre Woodstock held its Annual General Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation Night at The Market Centre on the evening of June 22 at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the election of Board Members, year end reports were received recognizing a very successful year for Theatre Woodstock and the CAST Theatre Company. Many of our members attended and several special presentations were made. Barb Jasper was recognized for her very special contributions to our Opening Night receptions over the past three years. Barb has prepared a wonderful themed buffet to help make our opening nights even more special for the audience, cast and crew. Her efforts have been very much appreciated. Yvonne Hord, who has worked as our Box Office Manager since the Market Centre opened, has decided to put more time and effort into other pursuits and is leaving our employ. Yvonne has been much appreciated not only for her work, but also for her volunteer efforts as secretary and Newletter editor. CAST, our program for children and young adults makes use of many volunteers to help put their shows together. The Theatre Woodstock Board decided this year to recognize one outstanding CAST volunteer on an annual basis and to name this award for a special volunteer who died this past year. The award is named the "Red Young Award" in honour of Red who was a wonderful volunteer and a great fan of what our young people can achieve. The first recipient is Taffy Weir, who happens to be Red's daughter. Taffy has three children involved in CAST and has taken on many extra duties over the years to help out where ever she was needed. Theatre Woodstock has been honouring volunteers who have made longtime commitments to its work by making them Life Members. In honour of another dear friend and life member, this award is now to be known as the "Lee Bennett Award". Receiving the first Lee Bennett Award was Donald Hastie who has been involved with Theatre Woodstock since his high school days in the 1970s. Don has served on our Board over the years and acts, directs, and is involved in many technical aspects of our productions. Following the presentations of these awards and theatre pins to all volunteers, CAST's Tomorrow is Another Day, written and directed by Joanna Sweete, was performed. This excellent, innovative and entertaining blacklight production delighted everyone. Everyone was encouraged to enjoy a social time in the lounge following the formal parts of the evening.
