John Cummings is a lonely and divorced back porch philosopher. He reflects on his relationships with three very different women who occupy the apartment next door and shares his views on everything from poetry to sex.
Directed by Bonnie Hartley
Chris Derbowka - Stage Manager
Chris is a grade 12 student at CASS and is working with TW through the co-op program. Chris was last seen as Bordan Isler/Bellhop in this season’s production of Plaza Suite. This is Chris' first experience as a stage manager, but he hopes to pursue theatre as a career.
Ralph Flood - John
Most of Ralph’s theatre experience has been with the Embro Thistle Theatre & the comedies of the Embro Dinner Theatre. This is his third time on the Market Centre stage. His last role with Theatre Woodstock was as the nosey neighbour, Douglas, in Ethan Claymore. When not on stage, Ralph can be found at work for the Guarantee Company in Woodstock or at home with his wife, Barbara, who helps him rehearse his lines & provides endless support while he "plays" around.
Bonnie Hartley - Director
This is the seventh production that Bonnie has directed for Theatre Woodstock Most recently Ethan Claymore, another Norm Foster script, was presented last Christmas. Bonnie has been involved with the theatre long enough to qualify for "lifetime" membership, and has served in a variety of capacities. When not working around TW, she is the coach of the Improv Team at Annandale School in Tillsonburg where she teaches, and enjoys going to theatre whenever possible.
Victoria Hilborn - Producer
Victoria is a grade 12 student at St. Mary's High School in Woodstock. This is her first time producing for Theatre Woodstock, but she recently co-produced her school's production of Guys and Dolls or 'Guys'. She has also been an ASM for the CAST production of Castomp/Legends, and has stage-managed many other plays! In the fall Victoria hopes to enter engineering at Western.
Kate Innes - Fay
Kate enjoyed working with Ralph and Bonnie so much on Ethan Claymore last year that she decided to do it again. Previously Kate has directed several plays for the theatre including Little Women and Season's Greetings, but she couldn't resist the opportunity to play a character like Fay Davidson in tonight's production of Here on the Flight Path.
Robin Norman - Gwen
Robin is happy to be back on Theatre Woodstock's stage after a long absence. You may remember her as Beryl in Footprints on the Moon and as the owner of Norman Galleries. Although she lives in Grimsby, the structure of this play made it possible for her to make rehearsals. She hopes that all of you will remember to come downstairs after the show and say hello.
Jenny Walker - Angel
This is Jenny’s Theatre Woodstock debut, but she is no stranger to the stage as modeling and acting have always played some part in her life. She has thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Previously graduated from Fanshawe College in the business program, Jenny works as a key account representative. She is looking forward to summer weather and playing soccer.
Director’s Notes
Norm Foster is quickly becoming Canada’s favourite and most prolific playwright. He has captured the Canadian sense of humour and readily applies it to a variety of human experiences. He excels in comedy that is witty and honest in emotion. As a result, most community theatres have one of his plays in their season every year. Theatre Woodstock has produced Ethan Claymore, The Motor Trade, The Long Weekend and we plan to open our next season with Office Hours.
His wonderful ear for dialogue is enhanced by the fact that Norm is also an actor who performs some of his own work. When I first saw Here on the Flight Path several years ago, Norm Foster played John Cummings opposite his wife, Janet Monid, who portrayed all three female roles. After touring with it for several summers, he released the amateur rights in January. The result is a script that has been finely tuned by the actor/playwright and was a great deal of fun to work with. Add to that a talented, dedicated cast and crew and we have a production that I’m sure all of you will thoroughly enjoy. So sit back and share the "Cummings and Goings" of some of Norm Foster’s best work.
